Protein Skimmer

I installed the protein skimmer, don't have it running yet because i have no fish in the tank. Once the fish are added the skimmer will go on.

Adding Live Rock

My tank is cleared up and added live rock. Also started up my filters.

The heater is set up and on at 80 degrees and the powerhead is on.
Turned on bot my filters a canister filter (Eheim professional II) and a bio wheel filter.
I added about 40 pounds of live rock, hopefully by the end of January I have about 100 pounds of live rock. I can tell you one thing, the rocks aren't cheap!!

Adding Live sand

I brought 3 bags of live sand for the tank (other bag is being put in the tank)

You can see the water got cloudy once I added the live sand. Now got to wait till the water clears up.

I also turned my heater on and set it to 80 degrees.

At this point:

-Mixed the sea salt with the water
-Turned the power head on
-Added the live sand
-Turned the heater on at 80 degrees F.

Adding sea salt

I am going to use 1 bag of Instant Ocean Sea salt for my tank.
Mixing the sea salt with the water
Salt on the bottom of the tank

Now we turn on the power head to have the salt mix in with the water. Just wait till the salt mixes in with the water.

Starting up

I decided it was time for a change in my aquarium. I had fresh water tanks my whole life. I was like for 2010 why dont i try making saltwater tank. I made up my mind and hit the computer and started doing my research. I went through many different websites, just read and started learning about saltwater aquariums and their requirments. Enough of me talking now and onto my progress.

I started my tank on December 27, 2009.

So far I took apart my freshwater tank, cleaned the glass and the filters.

The items I need to begin my Saltwater tank:

-Live Sand

-Live Rock

-Protein Skimmer

-Filter

-Lighting System

-Sea Salt

-Hydrometer

-Ph Buffer

-Chemicals (will name them as I get them)

-Heater

-Powerhead or wave maker

-Water test kit

I am using a 75 gallon tank.

The tank in the process of being taken apart.

Took out everything, washed the tank down with a hose and scrubbed it with a sponge.
